How to make 2018 the healthiest year of your life

'Tis the season for making New Years Resolutions: Setting goals! Dreaming big! Evaluating the past and feeling inspired for the future!  The goal of trying to loose weight in the new year is so cliche... yet it speaks to a deeper issue we ALL are facing:

How can we truly care about our health this coming year??

Perhaps I have lured you here with the promise of this incredible "Brussels Sprout Hash with Miso-Apple-Cider-Vinegar Dressing" recipe, but if you don't mind, first I would like to ask you a few questions:

  • When do you plan on making this recipe?

  • Why is this meal good for your body?

  • What the heck are these ingredients, and should you buy them?

  • How can you encourage your family to eat healthy things, like this?

  • Do you even have the energy to think about these things??

The answer to these questions will determine whether you follow through with the desire to be healthy in 2018.

With endless google searches and blog feeds about health and wellness, we are not lacking in information.  What we really need is personal engagement - so we can connect that knowledge with action, and acquire a deep understanding of our bodies.

Without this personal attention and expertise, it can be difficult to sort through facts for the truth, and to take the steps we need to change and grow.

I think this is one of the main reasons why Health Coaching is the fastest growing medical profession in our country.

Our health is not just a matter of vitamins and nutrients, and the precise equation of calories eaten and energy expended.  And if living a healthy lifestyle was easy, there wouldn't be a multi-million dollar industry devoted to helping you figure out diets and cooking techniques.

We all need better support, and better understanding.

This is why working with a Health Coach is so life changing! A Health Coach is trained both in nutrition and counseling, so they are able to focus on your holistic health. Working with a health coach, you will find the root cause of health issues, and address them with food and lifestyle changes that bring weight loss, healing, and greater vitality.

In 2016, I created Health + Discovery as a unique health coaching program designed to tackle the most common issues I see ailing busy professionals and parents today: high stress, little time, and poor lifestyle choices. These factors usually wind up contributing to unwanted weight gain, unwanted medications, and insufficient self-care.

As we work together, we will discover what is keeping you from reaching your health goals, and how to overcome these obstacles.

Whether that is lack of time and energy, chronic stress, inability to lose weight, fatigue and brain fog, food cravings that you succumb to, or lack of ability to spent time and effort on yourself - we all have an area of our life where we don’t feel whole.  And we wonder -  "What am I missing? How can I make the small changes and big steps I need to in my life so that I feel whole?"

Take this first step and sign up for a FREE Health History consultation - 1 hour, just for you. Let’s talk through your health challenges and hopes, so you feel empowered and ready to start the year off right!

I assure you, embracing and embodying this lifestyle where you feel healthy and free is not as tricky as you think.

Together, let's develop a nutrition plan that is unique and effective for YOU - because it is designed for YOUR body and YOUR lifestyle!

I help people to understand their bodies, and discover foods to eat for optimum nutrition. You will discover that health is holistic - the way you feel, your habits, time management, perspective on food, are all intertwined.

This year, choose to invest in your holistic health! Let’s dig deep into understanding your body and yourself, so 2018 can be the healthiest year of your life (yet :)).

This should take 15 minutes to prepare - max!!! A perfect addition to your holiday table :).

Holiday Feast Brussels Sprout Hash

  • 1/2 lb brussles sprouts (about 15 - 20)

  • 1 can chick peas

  • 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds

  • 2-3 cloves of garlic

  • 1 tbsp EVOO

  • S&P

Miso-Apple-Cider-Vinegar Dressing

  • 2 tbsp white miso

  • 2 tbsp tahini

  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 3 tbsp EVOO

  • 1 tsp dijon mustard

  • S&P to taste

Prep your ingredients: Trim brussels sprouts, de-seed pomegranate, chop garlic, and drain chick peas.

Make dressing by combining all ingredients in a mason jar or a small bowl, and stirring together with a whisk or a small spoon.

In a food processor, slice/shred brussels sprouts on high speed. Heat a large skillet on medium high heat, add 1 tbsp EVOO and warm until you can feel the heat of the oil and it glistens in the pan.  Add shredded brussels sprouts, garlic, and chick peas.  Toss for 2 minutes, until ingredients soften just a bit and are heated through.

Transfer to a large serving bowl, toss with dressing and top with pomegranate seeds.

Serve along side roasted, sliced sweet potatoes: preheat oven to 425 degreesslice sweet potatoes into thick slices and transfer to a foil lined baking sheet - drizzle with EVOO, S&P.  Roast for 20 minutes, flipping the slices halfway through.

OR alongside an animal protein of your choice.

Enjoy friends :).
